Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (October 20th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Friday’s events:

Varsity Football: Homer vs. ITC Syracuse

The Homer Trojans won 15-6 on the road against ITC Syracuse Friday night. With this win, Homer improved to a 4-3 overall record. 

Homer’s points were scored by Alex Votra (1 rushing touchdown & 1 two-point conversion), Wyatt Wilbur (1 rushing touchdown), and Laramy Velazquez-Ramirez (1 extra point kick). 

ITC Syracuse’s points were scored by Demeco Jefferson (1 rushing touchdown). 

This was Homer’s last game of the regular season. 

According to Section III, there will be a seeding meeting on Sunday (October 22nd) that will determine Cortland’s seeding and first round opponent. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: Cincinnatus vs. Manlius-Pebble Hill (Sectional Quarterfinals)

The 4th-seeded Cincinnatus Lions fell to 5th-seed Manlius-Pebble Hill (MPH) with a score of 0-2 in the quarterfinal round of the Section III Class D tournament. 

Both of MPH’s goals were scored in the first half by Jeffrey Pisciarino (1 goal) and Jacob Temes (1 goal). 

Cincinnatus senior captain Canden Stafford was subbed off at the beginning of the second half due to a knee injury. He later came back into the game with less than 20 minutes left. 

Cincinnatus goalie Josh Roberts was also injured in the game, as he was struck trying to clear off a corner kick that ended in a goal for MPH. 

With this loss, Cincinnatus ended their season with an overall record of 11-6-1

Varsity Boys Soccer: Marathon vs. Afton-Harpursville (Sectional Quarterfinals)

The 5th-seeded Marathon Olympians lost in the quarterfinal round of the Section IV Class C playoff tournament with a score of 1-3 against 4th-seed Afton-Harpursville. 

The game was played at Afton high school. 

Marathon’s only goal of the game was scored by junior Robert Anderson off an assist from sophomore Tucker Trabucco. 

Note: Afton-Harpursville stats were not made available by the time this article was written. 

With this loss, the Olympians ended their season with an overall record of 14-2-1.
