Today will be the chilliest day so far this season with gusty winds and damp, dreary conditions.

Low pressure east of Maine will pull away from the area, but lingering moisture and blustery winds will remain in our area.

The winds will be aided by high pressure building into the Great Lakes. As these two systems start to compete for influence over the area, the winds will remain gusty.

Northwest winds will have speeds up to 15 mph today with gusts as high as 35 mph.

These winds will continue to feed cold air into the region. Afternoon highs will struggle into the low 40s, and some hilltops may have a hard time getting beyond 40 degrees.

With the leftover moisture behind the low in place, these winds will tap into Lake Ontario to produce widespread lake enhanced precipitation. This will especially be the case this afternoon into the early evening. The morning, too, will be drizzly with occasional showers, though.

By the mid to late afternoon, we could start to see some snowflakes mixing in with the rain over higher elevations as temperatures drop. Snow mixing in, or taking over, will become more common after sunset throughout the county, though no accumulations are expected.

Precipitation and wind should die down overnight and skies may even clear before sunrise as the high pressure takes over. This should lead to overnight lows easily reaching the mid 30s with pockets of low 30s.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Monday: Lots of sun. Morning lows in the low and mid 30s. Afternoon highs around 50.

Tuesday: Sun and clouds with morning frost. Morning lows in the low 30s. Afternoon highs in the upper 50s.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with a few late showers. Morning lows in the mid 40s. Afternoon highs in the mid 60s.

Thursday: Sun and clouds. Maybe an early shower. Morning lows in the mid 40s. Afternoon highs in the upper 50s.
