Varsity Cross Country: Cortland, Homer, Cincinnatus & Marathon sectional results; runners qualify for states

Cross Country teams from Cortland County (Cortland, Homer, Cincinnatus & Marathon) competed in their respective sectional championship meets over the weekend. 

According to Marathon coach & athletic director Todd James, freshman Andrew Edsall placed 2nd overall with a time of 17:50.4 in the Section IV Class D championship to qualify for states. 

According to Homer coach Jim Baldwin, sophomore Ingrid Aagaard qualified for the Class C state meet after finishing in 5th place with an official time of 20:24.6 in the Section III Class C championship meet. 

All sectional championship races were 5 kilometers long. 

The state championship meet will take place at Vernon Verona Sherrill high school on Saturday (November 11th). Time slots for races will go from 9am to 2:30pm. Click here for more information.

Here are the sectional championship results & highlights from each Cortland County team (Cortland, Homer, Cincinnatus & Marathon):

Cortland

The Cortland Purple Tigers competed in the Section III Class B championship meet. The boys’ team placed 10th overall, while the girls’ team did not place since they did not have a full team. 

Boys

  • Christian Vanpatten finished in 28th place (Time - 20:03.5)
  • Avery Canzano came in 66th place overall (Time - 21:53.0)
  • Dylan Slater placed 76th overall (Time - 22:54.2)
  • Blayke Austen-Hynes placed 87th overall (Time - 24:12.4)
  • Ethan Wakula came in 88th place overall (Time - 24:20.4)
  • Owen Coon finished in 95th place overall (Time - 25:55.3)
  • Adam Lemon placed 97th overall (Time - 28:27.9)

Girls

  • Ruby Mullally placed 39th overall (Time - 25:01.0)

Homer

The Homer Trojans competed in the Section III Class C championship meet. The boys’ team placed 17th overall, while the girls’ team placed 9th overall.

  • Damian Brown finished in 25th place (Time - 18:34.5)
  • Christopher Boylan placed 61st overall (Time - 20:02.5) 
  • Ethan Maslin came in 94th place overall (Time - 21:10.2)
  • Aaron O'Brien placed 96th place overall (Time - 21:15.7)
  • Liam O'Brien came in 139th place overall (Time - 23:06.5)
  • Nicholas Costa finished in 140th place overall (Time - 23:28.7)
  • Michael Thalheimer placed 163rd overall (Time - 26:00.2)

Girls

  • Ingrid Aagaard finished in 5th place (Time - 20:24.6)
  • Anna Aldrich placed 39th overall (Time - 23:34.6)
  • Ruthalina Caravella came in 55th place overall (Time - 24:36.4)
  • Lydia Andre placed 63rd overall (Time - 24:55.8)
  • Maggie Mahunik placed 69th overall (Time - 25:35.7)
  • Alyssa Swayze came in 70th place overall (Time - 25:35.8)
  • Angela Yang placed 89th overall (Time - 27:52.0)
  • Brielle Towers came in 94th place overall (Time - 28:34.8)

Cincinnatus

The Cincinnatus Lions competed in the Section III Class D championship meet. (Note: Team results were not made available by the time this article was written). 

Boys

  • Elijah Fuller finished in 85th place (Time - 21:06.1)
  • Connor Johnson came in 89th place (Time - 21:09.5)
  • Dominic Crandall placed 123rd overall (Time - 22:34.9)
  • Eric Peterson came in 149th place overall (Time - 24:06.3)
  • Alan Cook finished in 156th place overall (Time - 24:43.0)
  • Michael Stairs placed 173rd overall (Time - 27:13.3)
  • Owen Brouty came in 174th place (Time - 27:14.2)
  • Haydn Kisner finished in 177th place (Time - 27:18.9)
  • Draven Reynolds placed 182nd overall (Time - 29:28.5)
  • Breyden Silva placed 184th overall (Time - 34:13.0)

Girls

  • Leaonna Horak placed 126th overall (Time - 29:34.2)
  • Hannah Torto came in 140th place overall (Time - 32:14.1)

Marathon

The Marathon Olympians competed in the Section IV Class D championship meet. The boys’ team placed 7th overall, while the girls’ team did not place since they did not have a full team.

  • Zachary Birdsall came in 17th place overall (Time - 19:16.5)
  • Blake Birdsall placed 34th overall (Time - 20:26.9)
  • Abdou Romdhani came in 75th place (Time - 26:51.6)
  • Zander Potts placed 77th overall (Time - 28:05.2)

Girls

  • Abigail Trabucco came in 12th place overall (Time - 22:40.7)
