A town of Virgil man is facing sex abuse allegations, according to a report.
The county sheriff’s report stated that the department received a report of sex abuse allegations that occurred between Jan. 2022 and Nov. 2023 at an undisclosed location in Virgil.
According to the report, Joseph P. Cunningham, 37, allegedly subjected one victim to “inappropriate sexual contact” on several occasions during that time period. The victim was known to Cunningham, the report continued.
Cunningham was arrested on Monday (Oct. 13) and charged with first-degree criminal sex act (a Class-B Felony), first-degree sex abuse (a Class-B Felony) and sexual misconduct (a Class-A Misdemeanor).
Following his arraignment, Cunningham was released to alternatives to incarceration.
