The Marathon Lady Olympians improved their unbeaten record to 3-0 after defeating Newfield 71-17 at Marathon high school Thursday night.

According to Marathon head coach, Beth Anne Duncan, sophomore Audrey Ensign scored a career high of 25 points in the game. She got some contested layups to fall early, and her teammates continued to find her throughout the game.

Marathon was led by Audrey Ensign (25 points), Abby Ensign (17 points), Addison Oram (11 points), and Kendre Euson (9 points).

Newfield was led by Natalie Tibbals (6 points) and Egypt Smith-Henderson (5 points).

“We played a great team game offensively and defensively,” stated coach Duncan. “There are still some areas we want to clean up, but it was good to start 3-0 at home. We have a lot of options on offense. It’s fun to see a different high scorer in each of our first three games.”

Marathon’s next game will be played on the road against Union Springs on Tuesday (December 12th) at 7:15pm.

The Homer Lady Trojans fell to a 1-3 record after losing 30-51 against Skaneateles Thursday evening.

Homer was led by Anya Gofkowski (12 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist & 1 steal), Lauren Franco (8 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist & 5 steals), Elia Spanbauer (4 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist & 3 steals), Kennadie Taylor (4 points, 3 rebounds & 1 steal), and Isabelle Small (2 points, 4 assists & 1 steal).

Skaneateles was led by Ayla Pas'cal (20 points, 15 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals & 5 blocks) and Isabella Pietropaoli (10 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist & 5 steals).

According to Homer head coach Bradley Sovocool, the Lady Trojans started the game out a little bit slow, but things picked up in the second quarter as the team gained more confidence to rebound and shoot the ball.

“To come out and only be down by 4 at halftime, everyone in the locker room felt confident in themselves,” added coach Sovocool. “The difference in the second half was that we played a little bit timid.”

Up next, Homer will host Chittenango at Homer high school on Thursday (December 14th) at 6:45pm.
