The Cortland Lady Tigers improved their unbeaten record to 3-0 after defeating Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) with a score of 46-26 at Cortland junior-senior high school Tuesday night.

Cortland took control of the game early on. The Lady Tigers ended up scoring 10 points in each of the first two quarters to make it 20-12 at halftime.

The Lady Tigers extended their lead in the second half, and got away from CBA’s reach.

Cortland scored double-digit points in each quarter of the game, while holding CBA to single-digits in every quarter.

“We played really well as a team with a lot of good chemistry and defense,” said Cortland senior Claire Turner. “There was so much hype about CBA, and they are a really good team; so I think we were all ready to go at one hundred percent.”

“We practiced a lot, and we knew that this was going to be a tough game,” added Cortland senior Valerosa Gambitta. “Our coaches prepared us really well, and our team executed exactly how we were practicing in practice.”

“This was a tough matchup for us,” stated Cortland head coach Janice Meyer. “We knew that going in and we executed pretty well. I think we played an excellent defensive game. We struggled against the 3-2 (pressure) a little bit, but we started to find our way through it. We got a little bit hotter in the second half with our shooting. We were really working on driving and kicking all week. I just think they (Cortland girls) stayed the course, ran the four well and did their jobs defensively, and that brought on good offense.”

“This is supposed to be one of the hardest teams we play, and we are all really happy that we got the win,” added senior guard Kendall Mack. “I think our defense has gotten really good at getting in the gaps and knowing where we have to be, but I think we still need to improve on faster ball reversals and knowing when to pass or not pass the ball. We just have to communicate.”

Cortland was led by Valerosa Gambitta (10 points), Kendall Mack (10 points), and Claire Turner (8 points).

CBA was led by Chianna Williams (8 points), Sydney Vaughn (5 points), and Carmella Fairbanks (5 points).

Cortland’s next game will be played at Cortland junior-senior high school on Friday (December 15th) against Institute of Technology at Syracuse. Tip off is at 6:45pm.
