The SUNY Cortland football squad is set to face North Central College in the 50th Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl, also known as the NCAA Division III Championship game, this weekend.

The matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m. later tonight at Salem Stadium in Salem, Virginia. It will be televised on ESPNU. Audio from the game will be provided by D3Football.com.

The Red Dragons (13-1) will be making their first-ever appearance in the Stagg Bowl. The Cardinals (14-0), the defending 2022 national champion, will appear in the Stagg Bowl for a fourth-straight season. North Central also won the national title in 2019.

SUNY Cortland and North Central are meeting for the first time in history. The Cardinals are a member of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. The Red Dragons beat Augustana (34-32), North Central’s fellow CCIW member, in their 2017 season opener.

North Central College, located in Naperville, Illinois, has been a national powerhouse for the past five seasons. Cardinals coach Brad Spencer has not lost a game in his two seasons at the helm of the program (29-0 record).

Curt Fitzpatrick, named SUNY Cortland’s head coach in February 2020, has a record of 33-4 in three seasons for the Red Dragons. He has guided Cortland to three-straight Empire 8 Conference titles, while Fitzpatrick and his assistants have been named Empire 8’s Coaching Staff of the Year in each of those seasons.

Fitzpatrick has also been named both the 2023 D3football.com Region 2 Coach of the Year and the 2023 AFCA Division III Region 1 Coach of the Year.
