Most of the daytime hours will be quiet, but a very rainy night is ahead as a coastal low tracks northward.

There should be plenty of cloud cover out ahead of the low throughout the day. If there are any glimpses of sunshine to behold, they will be early on during the morning hours.

The steady southeast wind that developed last night will continue throughout the day. Wind speeds will be 10-15 mph, and some gusts over 30 mph are possible over the northern hilltops.

Despite the clouds, temperatures will rise far above the average highs, topping out in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees.

The first showers will probably not arrive until right around or after sunset. The rain will quickly become widespread and steady with a gradual increase in intensity.

Pockets of heavy rain will especially be possible around and after midnight, continuing into the predawn hours of Monday. By 6 AM, anywhere from 1-2 inches of rain will fall, and it will probably still be raining.

Despite all of the rain, flooding is generally not a concern, though there will be some ponding of water and a notable rise on the Tioughnioga River.

Temperatures will remain in the upper 40s throughout the night but may slip into the mid 40s as the sun rises as winds turn to the northwest.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Monday: Morning rain. Afternoon showers. Morning temperatures in the upper 40s. Afternoon temperatures falling to the low 40s.

Tuesday: Much colder. Morning flurries and squalls tapering to a few afternoon snow showers. A couple inches of accumulation possible in the favored snow belts. Temperatures in the mid to upper 20s most of the day.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny. Morning lows in the low 20s. Afternoon highs in the mid and upper 30s.

Thursday: Sunny. A few clouds. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the mid and upper 30s.
