A strong area of low pressure will continue to impact the area today, though there should be some dry time in the afternoon.

Steady rain, heavy at times, will continue this morning. The rain should taper off quickly during the late morning and midday hours.

Much of the afternoon will be dry, though a few stray showers cannot be ruled out. There could even be a couple of brief glimpses of sunshine.

Moisture will spiral back into the area this evening, first as a few rain showers but eventually turning over to all snow. Some steady snow will be possible after midnight with a coating to perhaps an inch of accumulation.

Winds will gradually turn from the north to the northwest and finally the west over the course of the day. Wind speeds will be around 10 mph with a few gusts of 25-30 mph.

Temperatures will slowly retreat through the day. Mid 40s in the morning will lead to low 40s in the early afternoon and upper 30s by sunset. Evening temperatures will drop to the mid 30s with overnight lows around 30 degrees.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Tuesday: Much colder. Morning flurries and squalls tapering to a few afternoon snow showers. A couple inches of accumulation possible in the favored snow belts. Temperatures in the mid to upper 20s most of the day.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny. Morning lows in the low 20s. Afternoon highs in the mid and upper 30s.

Thursday: Sunny. A few clouds. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the upper 30s.

Friday: Still sunny. Morning lows in the low 20s. Afternoon highs in the mid 30s.
