County Sheriff’s Blotter: DWI accident, larcenies and more

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office released arrest reports that included a couple of driving while intoxicated accidents, larcenies and more.

Here are the reports:

Stephanie N. Earl

Earl, 33 of Cortland, was arrested last Thursday (Dec. 21).

The county sheriff’s report stated that Earl was involved in a one-car, motor vehicle accident in the town of Virgil. According to the report, Earl was driving while intoxicated and traveled off the roadway.

Earl was charged with DWI and aggravated DWI, speed not reasonable and prudent, failure to keep right and for driving across hazard markings.

Earl was processed, issued traffic tickets and is now due to appear in Virgil town court on Jan. 9.

Timothy J. Yaple

Yaple, 43 of Nefane, was arrested last Thursday (Dec. 21).

The county sheriff’s report stated that officers received calls for an “erratic driver” on Interstate-81. According to the report, Yaple took exit 11 off I-81 and turned onto Clinton Street.

Following a traffic stop, Yaple was found to be driving while intoxicated. Along with DWI charge, Yaple was also charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated (a misdemeanor), and failure to stop at a stop sign, no plate lamp, refusal of a breath screening test and for an improper signal (all violations).

Yaple was processed, issued appearance tickets and is now due to appear in Cortland city court on Jan. 5.

Timothy S. Peck

Peck, 43 of Syracuse, was arrested last Wednesday (Dec. 20).

The county sheriff’s report stated that Peck stole merchandise from the Walmart store in the town of Cortlandville. According to the report, Peck previously received a trespass notice on the property.

Peck fled the scene before officers arrived, but was located by a nearby business. He was charged with petit larceny, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of a dangerous substance or synthetic drug.

Peck was arraigned and sent to the Cortland County Jail without bail. He is due to appear in court at a later date.

Charles H. Batsford

Batsford, 23 of Cortlandville, was arrested last Thursday (Dec. 21).

The county sheriff’s report stated that officers on Nov. 21 investigated a domestic disturbance at a residence in the town of Cortlandville. According to the report, Batsford acted in a manner likely “to be injurious to the physical, mental or moral welfare of a child.”

Batsford was charged with endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned, released and now due to appear in Cortlandville town court on Jan. 8.

Nicholas P. Downing

Downing, 26 of Cortland, was arrested this past Friday (Dec. 22). 

The county sheriff’s report stated that Downing stole merchandise from the Walmart store in Cortlandville.

Downing was charged with petit larceny, a Class-A Misdemeanor. He was processed, released and is now due to appear in Cortlandville town court on Jan. 8.

Austin M. Malchak

Malchak, 25 of the village of Marathon, was arrested this past Thursday (Dec. 21).

The county sheriff’s report stated that Malchak stole merchandise from the Walmart store in the town of Cortlandville.

Malchak was charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor. He is due to appear in Cortlandville town court on Jan. 8.
