Reminder from Cortland County on recycling awareness

The Cortland County Recycling Center recently put out a note about how from the day after Christmas to New Years Day are “some of the busiest, most contaminated days of the year” in recycling.

With that being said, the county recycling center is asking residents to be aware of what they’re bringing to its facility on Pendleton Street in Cortland.

“Excessive contamination can lead to much higher fees and fines for our facility, which could ultimately lead to higher taxes,” noted in a post on the county recycling center’s Facebook page.

The county recycling center is reminding everyone that styrofoam, plastic packaging materials, bubble wrap or any plastic item that does not contain the chasing arrow symbol (with No. 1 or No. 2 inside the arrows) is not recyclable.

“Thank you for understanding the importance of a clean recycling stream,” the post noted.

For more information or questions, call the recycling center at 607-753-5191. For guidance, go to the center’s Facebook page or its page on the county website.
