The Village of Homer is reminding everyone to stay off the outdoor ice rink while it is freezing.

Village officials posted on Facebook that individuals recently walked on the ice, with one going through the ice. The ice wasn’t completely frozen, and the rink can’t be used if it isn’t frozen correctly. Signs are posted at the site to stay off the ice.

The village installed its outdoor rink in early December, with the hope of opening during New Years weekend or sometime in the beginning of January.

If anyone is seen on the ice, contact the village offices at 607-749-3322 or Homer police at 607-749-2028.
