Temperatures will start a downward turn today as a frontal boundary develops to our north and moves through the area tonight.

A developing low pressure system to our northeast over Vermont will be the catalyst for changing our weather pattern. To the west of this low, a frontal boundary will develop near or just north of Lake Ontario.

Through the morning hours, rain showers will lift north through the area and coalesce near the front. If the front sets up far enough to the north, the late morning and early afternoon could end up mostly dry.

Showers will gradually increase again through the afternoon as the front begins to southward trek. By sunset, showers should be widespread.

The rain will start to mix with snow during the evening hours. Precipitation will eventually become all snow overnight with a coating of accumulation possible.

Steady precipitation will end before the sun rises, but some lingering lake effect flurries will be possible into Saturday morning.

Winds will be out of the west today with speeds between 5-10 mph. Once the front clears the area overnight, winds will turn to the northwest for the predawn hours.

Temperatures will make it into the mid 40s this afternoon with a drop to around 40 degrees early this evening. By midnight, temperatures will be approaching the mid 30s with overnight lows between 32-35 degrees.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Saturday: Cloudy with a few lake effect snow showers. Morning lows in the low to mid 30s. Afternoon highs in the mid to upper 30s.

Sunday: Cloudy but mostly dry. Morning lows in the upper 20s. Afternoon highs in the mid 30s.

Monday: A few morning flurries. Morning lows in the upper 20s. Afternoon highs in the mid 30s.

Tuesday: Increasing sunshine. Morning lows in the mid 20s. Afternoon highs in the mid to upper 30s.
