Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (January 2nd); Spanbauer hits game-winning buzzer-beater

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Tuesday’s events:

The Homer Lady Trojans improved to a 3-5 record after defeating Cazenovia with a score of 36-34 at Homer high school. 

Homer sophomore Elia Spanbauer came in clutch in the last few seconds of the game, as she hit a game-winning buzzer-beating to give Homer the win. Spanbauer ended the game with 23 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist & 5 steals.

Following Spanbauer were Lauren Franco (8 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists & 2 steals), Anya Gofkowski (3 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 steals & 1 block), and Madison Morgan (2 points & 1 rebound). 

Cazenovia was led by Ella Baker (12 points, 9 rebounds & 2 steals), Hayden Bubble (9 points & 1 steal), and Bess Johnson (8 points & 1 rebound), Jocelyn Szalach (4 points, 7 rebounds & 1 steal), and Sophie Rheaume (1 point & 1 rebound). 

Homer’s next game will be played against Owego Apalachin at Homer high school this Friday (January 5th) at 6:45pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Hamilton

The Cincinnatus Lions lost 43-62 against Hamilton on the road Friday evening. With this loss, Cincinnatus has fallen to an overall record of 3-4. 

Cincinnatus was led by John Schuyler (18 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists & 3 steals), Jack Stafford (12 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists & 2 blocks), Canden Stafford (6 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists & 3 steals), Trevor Shevalier (5 points, 10 rebounds & 4 blocks), and Mason Walker (2 points).

Hamilton was led by Drew Baker (30 points, 3 steals & 4 blocks), Andreas Cardelus-Watkins (11 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist & 6 steals), Teddy Freeth (9 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists & 4 steals), Luke Langel (8 points, 2 assists & 3 steals), Gavin Snyder (2 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist & 1 steal), and Luke Jackson (2 points, 2 rebounds, 7 assists & 2 steals).   

Up next, Cincinnatus will look forward to playing at home against Fabius-Pompey this upcoming Friday (January 5th) at 7pm.
