Varsity Girls Basketball: Marathon vs. Spencer-Van Etten (SVE)

The Marathon Lady Olympians improved to a record of 8-2 after defeating Spencer-Van Etten (SVE) with a score of 44-22 Friday night.

“A win is a win,” said Marathon head coach Beth Anne Duncan. “It wasn’t our prettiest win, especially coming off such a big win last week against Tully in the championship game of the hustle tournament where there was great effort, great rebounding, and we shot really well; but tonight Spencer made us work for it. We needed to move up the pressure and we ended up getting into our offense, because we created offense from our defense and that helped us; but we had too many turnovers from silly plays that we can definitely clean up before our game against Moravia on Tuesday."

Marathon was led by Abby Ensign (18 points), Audrey Ensign (9 points), Addison Oram (8 points), and Anna Hoyt (5 points).

SVE was led by Brianna Predmore (6 points) and Lilyanah Doolittle (5 points).

“I think it was a good game for us,” Abby Ensign stated. “We have a few things that we need to work on, but obviously we just had a rough start with a few turnovers, but overall it went pretty well. I think we communicated well, and I feel like our defense is the strongest part of our game.”

“This was kind of a revenge game for us, because last time we had a lead at halftime and Spencer came back and beat us,” added coach Duncan. “So it was important for us to keep the foot on the gas pedal and do a good job staying locked in.”
