Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (January 9th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Tuesday’s events:

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. McGraw

The McGraw Eagles won a county rivalry game against the Cincinnatus Lions at Cincinnatus high school. McGraw won the game in double overtime with a score of 57-47. 

With this result, McGraw improved to an 8-2 record, while Cincinnatus fell to 3-6. 

McGraw was led by Caleb Epp (19 points), Dylan Truman (17 points), Calob Sutton (13 points), Jaydon Bassett (5 points), Riley VanLiew (2 points), and Blair Mulcahy (1 point). 

Cincinnatus was led by Canden Stafford (12 points), Jack Stafford (11 points), John Schuyler (10 points), Trevor Shevalier (8 points), and Zack Streichert (6 points). 

McGraw’s next game will be played against DeRuyter at McGraw high school on Tuesday (January 16th) at 7pm; while Cincinnatus will host Stockbridge Valley at Cincinnatus high school this Friday (January 12th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Homer vs. Bishop Ludden

The Homer Trojans have fallen to an overall record of 4-5 after losing to Bishop Ludden with a score of 86-43 Tuesday night. 

Homer was led by Wyatt Wilbur (14 points), Kaden Durham (13 points), Max Franco (6 points), Mitchell Earle (4 points), Daniel Hartnett (4 points), and Alex Voltra (2 points). 

Bishop Ludden was led by Jahzar Greene (19 points), Tim Dunham (16 points), Joe Dunham (12 points), and Liam Sheard (11 points). 

Up next, Homer will play on the road against Mexico this Friday (January 12th) at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Ice Hockey: Cortland-Homer vs. Christian Brothers Academy (CBA)

The Cortland-Homer Golden Eagles lost against CBA with a score of 5-3, making them fall to an overall record of 3-9. 

Cortland-Homer was led by Gabe O’Connor (1 goal & 1 assist), Brady Coffin (3 assists), Owen Rizzo (1 assist), Bodey McGrath (1 goal & 1 assist), Liam O’Connor (1 goal), and Jack Medeiros (36 saves). 

CBA was led by Jake Dubrey (1 assist), Will Sharlow (1 assist), James Stanton (1 goal), Quinn Wimer (1 goal), Jack Dement (1 goal & 1 assist), Logan Novak (1 assist), Grady Shanley (1 goal), Gavin Dunford (1 goal), Griffin Fillighera (1 assist), Denver Qiao (1 assist), Kyle Gaffney (1 assist), and Justin Buffom (27 saves). 

Cortland-Homer’s next game will be played against Skaneateles at the Skaneateles Community Center this Thursday (January 11th) at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Wrestling: Cortland vs. Marcellus

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost a dual match against Marcellus at Cortland junior-senior high school with a team score of 12-63.
