The Cincinnatus Lions pulled off a second half comeback to beat Stockbridge Valley at Cincinnatus high school Friday night. The Lions won the game with a score of 45-28.

The Lions struggled in the first half, giving Stockbridge Valley a 21-19 lead at halftime.

According to Cincinnatus junior John Schuyler, coach Jim Halstrom gave the Lions a great half time speech to motivate the team to get the win.

“We came out knowing that we could beat these guys,” said Schuyler. “We did it before, and we had a lot of halftime motivation going into it.”

The Lions went on to close out Stockbridge Valley’s perimeter shooting, while knocking down some open shots of their own to make a second half comeback.

“It was a great second half after we struggled to put the ball in the basket early,” stated Cincinnatus head coach Jim Halstrom. “At halftime, we decided that we were going to attack a bit better and we did that. We also played great defense in the second half, closing out all of their shooters, and made it happen.”

Cincinnatus’ defense held Stockbridge Valley to 3-points in the third quarter and 4-points in the fourth quarter.

According to coach Halstrom, Cincinnatus junior Trevor Shevalier has been a key player on defense for the Lions over the last few games.

“Trevor is really coming into his own,” said Halstrom. “Defensively, he has really been turning it up for us. I am not going to say rim protector, but he is as close as we are going to get to that, and he’s doing a really good job getting rebounds for us.”
