Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (January 12th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Friday’s events:

Varsity Girls Basketball: Marathon vs. Tioga Senior

The Marathon girls basketball team won 81-25 against Tioga Senior at Marathon high school Friday night. 

Marathon was led by Abby Ensign (28 points), Audrey Ensign (21 points), and Megan Howard (11 points), Anna Hoyt (7 points), Catherine Newkirk (6 points), Kendre Euson (6 points), and Marissa Allen (2 points).

Tioga Senior was led by Taliah Speer (11 points), Mia Hall (5 points), and Raeanne Feeko (5 points).

With this result, Marathon improved to a 9-2 record. 

Up next, Marathon will host Moravia Central at Marathon high school on Tuesday (January 16th) at 7:15pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Homer vs. Mexico

The Homer Lady Trojans lost to Mexico with a score of 34-24 Friday night, making them fall to an overall record of 3-8. 

Note: stats of the game were not made available by the time this article was written. 

Homer will now look forward to playing on the road against Institute of Technology Syracuse on Tuesday (January 16th) at 6:30pm.  

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Stockbridge Valley

The Cincinnatus Lions pulled off a second half comeback to beat Stockbridge Valley at Cincinnatus high school Friday night. The Lions won the game with a score of 45-28.

Cincinnatus’ next game is scheduled to be played at the Utica Notre Dame Jugglers Classic tournament against Utica-Notre Dame at 6pm tonight (January 13th). Other teams participating in the tournament are Clinton and Oriskany. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Homer vs. Mexico

The Homer Trojans improved to a 5-5 record after beating Mexico with a score of 63-47. 

Homer was led by Wyatt Wilbur (14 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists & 1 block), Mitchell Earle (15 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists & 2 steals), Kaden Durham (11 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist & 3 blocks), and Tyler VanEtten (11 points, 3 rebounds & 4 assists).

Up next, Homer will host Institute of Technology Syracuse at Homer high school on Tuesday (January 16th). Tip off is at 6:45pm.  

Varsity Boys Basketball: Marathon vs. Tioga Senior

The Marathon Olympians lost a high scoring game against Tioga Senior with a score of 75-68 on the road Friday night. With this loss, Marathon has fallen to an overall record of 5-6.

Marathon was led by Jacob Byron (14 points), Bryce Hartman (13 points), Zachary Birdsall (13 points), Camdyn Kashuba (11 points), Bode Carter (10 points), and Austin Poth (3 points).

Tioga Senior was led by Evan Sickler (30 points), Valentino Rossi (19 points), and Gavin Fisher (15 points). 

Marathon’s next game will be played on the road this upcoming Tuesday (January 16tg) against Moravia Central at 7:15pm.
