Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (January 22nd)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Monday’s events:

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cortland vs. Mexico

The Cortland Purple Tigers defeated Mexico in order to improve to a 3-10 record Monday night. Cortland won the game with a score of 61-50. 

Cortland was led by Caden Albright (14 points), Damauri Bell (14 points), Antonio Terrazas (13 points), Jaxson Gambitta (9 points), Ethan Johnson (4 points), Cal Albright (3 points), Owen Michales (2 points), and Quinn Woodard (2 points).

Mexico was led by Jacob Poissant (16 points), Mason Zemotel (10 points), Wyatt Chamberlain (9 points), Brayden Mack (9 points), Carter Robert (4 points), and Christopher Hermitt (2 points). 

Cortland’s next game will be played against Solvay at Cortland junior-senior high school this Wednesday (January 24th) at 6:45pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: McGraw vs. Groton

The McGraw Eagles lost with a score of 50-40 against Groton at Groton high school 

McGraw was led by Caleb Epp (18 points) and Jaydon Bassett (11 points).

Groton was led by Dom Mackey (17 points), Mike Lane (9 points), and Trenton Walker (7 points). 

Up next, McGraw will play Stockbridge Valley on the road this upcoming Friday (January 26th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Faith Heritage

The Cincinnatus Lions fell to an overall record of 5-9 after losing to Faith Heritage with a score of 59-42 Monday night. 

Cincinnatus was led by Canden Stafford (26 points), John Schuyler (6 points), Jack Stafford (6 points), Trevor Shevalier (2 points), and Mason Walker (2 points). 

Faith Heritage was led by Landon Bregou (20 points), Jack Marziale (13 points), Cameron Burns (13 points), Noah Lobdell (5 points), Westin Retzos (5 points), and Carter Henderson (3 points).

Cincinnatus is now scheduled to host Madison at Cincinnatus high school this Friday (January 26th) at 7:30pm. 

Varsity Bowling: Cortland vs. Solvay

The Cortland boys and girls bowling teams competed against Solvay at AMF Strike 'N Spare Lanes in Syracuse Monday afternoon. 

The Cortland boys’ team defeated Solvay with a team score of 7-0, while the Cortland girls’ team lost 5-2.
