The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office is offering a New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation-sponsored course locally this weekend.

The one-day course will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 27) at the Cortlandville Fire Department at 999 Route 13 in the town of Cortlandville.

According to a post by the county sheriff’s office, children between the ages of 10 and 13 may operate a snowmobile (on lands where snowmobiling is allowed) if they complete a NYS-recognized snowmobile safety training course and are accompanied by a person who is at least 18 years of age.

Individuals between the ages of 14 and 17 who hold a safety training course certificate can operate a snowmobile without adult supervision.

Lunch will not be provided on Saturday, but a lunch break will be given.
