A man accused of allegedly sexually assaulting a minor pleaded guilty in Cortland County on Monday.
Jerry L. Smith pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child – a Class-A Misdemeanor. He previously faced a charge of first-degree sexual abuse (a Class-D Felony).
According to documents from county court, Smith allegedly touched a minor’s private parts and slapped the minor’s buttocks with his hand in April 2022 at a residence in the town of Freetown.
Court docs stated that the minor is under 17 years of age. Documents noted that the minor did not give Smith consent at any time to touch them.
Smith’s sentencing in county court is scheduled for April 11 at 10:30 a.m.
