City Police: Individuals arrested in connection to theft of tools

Individuals were arrested on Tuesday in connection to the theft of power tools.

The City of Cortland Police Department report stated that officers investigated a burglary on Church Street. According to the report, two suspects on Jan. 18 “broke into a locked maintenance room” and stole power tools and other tools from a room in the basement of the building.

The investigation led to the arrests of Matthew J. Barber, 36, and Jodi L. Hamilton, 40, of Cortland. Barber was charged with third-degree burglary (a Class-D Felony), and petit larceny and fifth-degree conspiracy (a Class-A Misdemeanor). Hamilton was charged with criminal trespass (a Class-A Misdemeanor).

Barber and Hamilton were both released on appearance tickets for court at a later date. The report stated that further arrests are pending.
