Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (January 24th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Wednesday’s events:

Varsity Girls Basketball: Marathon vs. Moravia

The Marathon Lady Olympians improved to a 10-3 record after beating Moravia with a score of 56-54. 

Marathon was led by Anna Hoyt (26 points), Abby Ensign (13 points), and Addison Oram (11 points).

Moravia was led by Genson (14 points), Grace Wasileski (13 points), and Jordan Smith (10 points).

Up next, Marathon will host Union Springs at Marathon high school on Friday (January 27th) at 7:15pm.

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cortland vs. Solvay

The Cortland Purple Tigers won 52-48 against Solvay at Cortland junior-senior high school Wednesday night, improving their overall record to 4-10. 

Cortland was led by Caden Albright (22 points, 1 rebound, 3 assists, 3 steals & 1 steal), Damauri Bell (12 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist & 4 steals), Cal Albright (6 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist & 2 steals), Jaxson Gambitta (5 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist & 2 steals), Antonio Terrazas (2 points, 1 rebound & 3 assists), Ethan Johnson (2 points & 1 steal), and Owen Michales (2 points).

Solvay was led by Jairo DeJesus Jr (12 points), Aiyden Geigel (11 points), and AJ Trendell (8 points).

Cortland is now scheduled to host county rival Homer at Cortland junior-senior high school this Friday (January 26th) at 6:45pm. 

Varsity Wrestling: Marathon vs. Moravia 

The Marathon Olympians defeated Moravia in a dual match with a team score of 48-16 Wednesday night.

Varsity Boys Volleyball: Cincinnatus vs. Sauquoit Valley

The Cincinnatus Lions lost in three straight sets against Sauquoit Valley Wednesday evening, making them fall to an 0-8 record.

Cincinnatus’ next match will be played at Cincinnatus high school against Chittenango on Tuesday (January 30th) at 5:30pm.
