Marathon wins overtime thriller

The Marathon Lady Olympians improved to a 13-5 record after beating Oxford Academy on the road. Marathon won the game in overtime with a score of 63-56. 

Marathon was led by Abby Ensign (20 points), Anna Hoyt (17 points), Addison Oram (16 points), Catherine Newkirk (8 points), and Marissa Allen (2 points).

Oxford Academy was led by Emmalee Reiss (13 points), Taegan Manwarren (9 points), Margaret Rovente (8 points), Ava Benjamin (7 points), Jocie Finch (6 points), Emily Holbert (5 points), Lizzy Knapp (4 points), and Raya Warner (4 points).

“Great win that we had to come from behind,” said Marathon head coach Beth Anne Duncan. “Good scoring balance, and Abby Ensign really came alive in the fourth quarter and overtime to secure the win for the team. Hoyt and Oram hit very timely shots down the stretch, and Newkirk solidified the win in overtime from the free throw line.” 

Marathon’s next game will be played at home this Saturday (February 10th) against Greene Central at 7:15pm.
