City of Cortland firefighters responded to a fire call on Wednesday night.

The city fire report stated that upon arrival at a building on Owego Street, firefighters found a container on fire with heavy smoke coming from the second floor of the structure.

According to the report, tenants exited the building after a dry chemical extinguisher was discharged onto a pan that was on fire. The pan was then thrown out the window, which landed near the structure.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the pan fire and ventilate the smoke from the building, the report noted. The fire was determined accidental, and the building didn’t suffer damage due quick action from the tenants and firefighters. No injuries were reported.

The tenants were able to re-enter the building following an investigation of the fire. The building includes seven apartments and business offices on the first floor.
