Marathon boys lose to Elmira Notre Dame in quarterfinal round of sectional play

The Marathon Olympians’ season came to an end after losing to Elmira Notre Dame in the quarterfinal round of the Section III Class C playoff tournament on Saturday (February 24th) with a score of 69-47. The game was played at Elmira Notre Dame high school. 

Marathon entered the game as the No.10 seed, while Elmira Notre Dame came in as the No.2 seed. 

Marathon was led by Zachary Birdsall (19 points, 12 rebounds, & 2 assists), Jacob Byron (10 points, 1 rebound, 3 assists & 1 steal), Camdyn Kashuba (9 points & 5 rebounds), Austin Poth (7 points & 2 rebounds), and Blake Birdsall (2 points, 1 rebound & 1 steal). 

Elmira Notre Dame was led by Jeremiah Parker (25 points), Gabriel Patterson (24 points), Patrick McCarthy (7 points), Vinny Campanelli (6 points), Luke Richards (5 points), and Caleb White (2 points).

With this loss, Marathon ended their season with an overall record of 11-11. 

Elmira Notre Dame will play No.3 seed Moravia in the semifinal round of the tournament at Tompkins Cortland Community College this Wednesday (February 28th) at 7:45pm.
