County Sheriff’s Blotter: Illegal weapons, property damage and more

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office released reports for arrests that took place over the weekend.

Below are the reports:

Wendy Caswell

Caswell, 41, of Cortland, was arrested on Friday (March 8).

The county sheriff’s report stated that officers conducted a traffic stop on Grant Street in Cortland. According to the report, Caswell was allegedly in possession of an illegal weapon.

Caswell was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon (misdemeanor), and for an uninspected motor vehicle, unsafe tires, obstruction of driver’s view and for no distinctive number/only one/dirty/obstructed license plate (all violations).

Caswell was released and is now scheduled to appear in Cortland city court on March 25.

Dakota J. Burhans

Burhans, 23, of Willet, was arrested on Friday (March 8).

The county sheriff’s report stated that Burhans caused damage to an individuals’ personal property at a residence in the town of Willet. According to the report, Burhans was not at the residence when officers arrived, but he turned himself into the sheriff’s office later in the day on Friday.

Burhans was charged with third-degree criminal mischief (a Class-E Felony). He was arraigned, released and is now due to appear in Willet town court on April 4.

Nena M. Ostrander

Ostrander, 39, of Marathon, was arrested on Saturday (March 9).

The county sheriff’s report stated that Ostrander stole merchandise from the Walmart store in Cortlandville.

Ostrander was charged with petit larceny (a misdemeanor). She was processed, released and is now due to appear in Cortlandville town court next Monday (March 18).
