A piece of atmospheric energy will approach the area from the west late today while a strengthening coastal low approaches from the south.

Out ahead of these two systems, the daytime hours today should be quiet but cloudy. Towards sunset, a little light snow from the first piece of energy may make its way into our area.

As the coastal low draws closer, it will push warm air into the area. This should be enough to at least bring some mixed precipitation Friday evening and especially Friday night, when precipitation will intensify. There is a chance that mostly rain will fall for much of the night. There could be a little ice mixing in as well from time to time.

Precipitation will turn to all snow either before or slightly after sunrise Saturday with a couple inches possible before the snow ends.

Winds today will be nearly calm in the morning, then light from the east this afternoon. Southeast winds are expected tonight, but speeds should stay near or under 5 mph.

Afternoon highs will be in the low and mid 30s. Evening temperatures will rise a few degrees and should hold in the mid 30s until early Saturday morning.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Saturday: Precipitation turning to snow and ending in the morning. Cloudy for the afternoon. Morning temperatures in the mid 30s dropping to the low 30s in the afternoon.

Sunday: Mostly sunny. Morning lows near 20. Afternoon highs in the mid and upper 30s.

Monday: Sun and a few clouds. Morning lows in the low 20s. Afternoon highs near 50.

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy with a few rain showers late. Morning lows near 30. Afternoon highs in the low 50s.
