Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (April 2nd)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Tuesday’s events:

Varsity Boys Lacrosse: Homer vs. LaFayette-Onondaga

The Homer Trojans defeated LaFayette-Onondaga at Homer high school Tuesday evening with a score of 10-7. With this win, Homer improved to a 3-0 record. 

Homer was led by Daniel Stiles (3 goals & 3 assists), Gabe O’Connor (3 goals), Christopher Slade (2 goals), Wyatt Wilbur (1 goal), and Brycen Poole (1 goal). 

LaFayette-Onondaga was led by Cusin Lyons (3 goals & 1 assist), River Porter (2 goals & 1 assist), Bruce Benedict (1 goal & 2 assists), and Brycin Jones (1 goal & 1 assist). 

Homer goalie Ben Bradshaw made 12 saves, while Braxtin Jones also recorded 12 saves. 

Up next, Homer will play on the road against Jordan-Elbridge on Thursday (April 4th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Girls Lacrosse: Cortland vs. New Hartford

The Cortland Lady Tigers fell to an overall record of 0-2 after losing to New Hartford in the rain with a score of 20-9 at Cortland junior-senior high school Tuesday night. 

Cortland was led by Valerosa Gambitta (3 goals), Aubree Larkin (2 goals), Francesca Smith (2 goals), Emma Marks (1 goal), and Sophia Souzas (1 goal). 

New Hartford was led by Natalia Viola (5 goals), Madison Truax (4 goals), Grace Bannigan (3 goals), JoLee McCraith (2 goals & 2 assists), Kate Elbrecht (2 goals & 2 assists), Elizabeth Rayhill (1 goal & 2 assists), Caitlin Greene (1 goal & 1 assist), Hana Sabanovic (2 goals). 

Cortland goalkeeper Elizabeth Slavick recorded 9 saves in the game, while Felicia Huang made 5 saves for New Hartford. 

Cortland is now scheduled to play on the road against Mexico this Thursday (April 4th) at 6:30pm.
