Individuals arrested for allegedly breaking into student houses (City Police)

Individuals were arrested earlier this week for allegedly breaking into student houses, according to a report.

The City of Cortland Police report stated that the department received several complaints of burglaries to student housing in the area of Lincoln Avenue, Monroe Heights, and Clayton Avenue during the college students’ most recent break.

Following an investigation into different burglaries by several city police detectives, a “large amount” of the stolen property was recovered.

According to the report, the investigation led to the arrests of Troy A. Schermerhorn, 34, and Andrew J. Fiorentini, 41, on Wednesday (April 3). 

Schermerhorn was charged with three counts of second-degree burglary (a Class-C Felony), three counts of fourth-degree conspiracy (a Class-E Felony), and three counts of petit larceny and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property (Class-A Misdemeanors).

Fiorentini was charged with three counts of second-degree burglary (a Class-C Felony), three counts of fourth-degree conspiracy and tampering with physical evidence (a Class-E Felonies), and fourth-degree criminal mischief, three counts of petit larceny and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property (Class-A Misdemeanors).

Schermerhorn was arraigned and sent to Cortland County Jail with bail set at $3,000 cash or a $6,000 bond. Fiorentini was arraigned and sent to county jail without bail. Both are due to appear in court at a later date.
