Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (April 4th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Thursday’s events:

Varsity Girls Lacrosse: Cortland vs. Mexico

The Cortland Lady Tigers won their first game of the regular season against Mexico on the road with a score of 17-9. With this win, Cortland improved to a 1-2 overall record. 

Cortland was led by Aubree Larkin (4 goals & 6 assists), Valerosa Gambitta (5 goals & 1 assist), Francesca Smith (2 goals), Gabriella Brown (2 goals), Nora Gross (2 goals), Emma Marks (1 goal), Lily Yang (1 goal), and Elizabeth Slavick (9 saves). 

According to Cortland head coach Paige Potter, Larkin’s 6 assists in the game were a career high.

Cortland’s next game will be played on the road against Chittenango this upcoming Tuesday (April 9th) at 5:15pm. 

Varsity Girls Lacrosse: Homer vs. Jordan-Elbridge

The Homer Lady Trojans improved to a 3-1 record after beating Jordan-Elbridge with a score of 13-2 at Homer high school. 

Homer was led by Emma Effinger (4 goals & 1 assist), Maria Partis (4 goals & 1 assist), Isabelle Small (1 goal & 1 assist), Lilly Sorenson (2 goals), Ella Spanbauer (2 goals), Caitlin McCloy (1 assist), and Aislynn Cobb (7 saves). 

Jordan-Elbridge was led by Kelsey Brunelle (1 goal & 1 assist), Evelyn Bennett (1 goal), and Ryleigh Gill  (1 save). 

Up next, Homer will host New Hartford at Homer high school tonight (April 5th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Boys Lacrosse: Cortland vs. Syracuse

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost against Syracuse with a score of 14-1 on the road Thursday night, making them fall to an overall record of 0-4. 

Cortland was led by Joseph Banewicz (1 goal) and Declan Vail (11 saves). 

Syracuse was led by Finn Smith (9 goals & 2 assists), Patrick Boyle (3 goals & 6 assists), Ben Doelle (2 goals & 2 assists), Cosmo Kessler (4 saves), and Jose Pizzaro (1 save). 

Cortland is now scheduled to host Tully at Cortland junior-senior high school on Saturday (April 6th) at 10am. 

Varsity Boys Lacrosse: Homer vs. Jordan-Elbridge

The Homer Trojans improved their unbeaten record to 4-0 after defeating Jordan-Elbridge with a score of 15-7 on the road. 

Homer was led by Daniel Stiles (6 goals), Alexander Votra (4 goals & 1 assist), Gabriel O'Connor (2 goals), Cooper Swartz (1 goal & 1 assist), Mason Potter (1 goal), Jack Brady (1 goal), and Benjamin Bradshaw (15 saves). 

Jordan-Elbridge was led by Casey Ryan (1 goal & 1 assist), Nixon Karcz (1 goal & 1 assist), Joseph LaFluer (2 goals), Jayden Castaldo (2 goals), Wyatt Werth (2 assists), Brayden Kitterle (1 goal), and Austin Brunelle (10 saves). 

Homer’s next game is scheduled to be played at Homer high school against Carthage on Saturday (April 6th) at 2pm.
