Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (April 6th & 7th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from this past weekend’s events:

Varsity Baseball: McGraw vs. Tully (PBR Lumber Yard High School Classic)

The McGraw Eagles played against Tully in their first PBR Lumber Yard High School Classic game Sunday morning. McGraw lost the game with a score of 10-2. 

McGraw was led by Jaydon Bassett (1 run & 2 hits), Foster Eaton (1 run & 1 RBI), Riley VanLiew (1 run), Calob Sutton (1 hit), Blair Mulcahy (1 hit & 5 strikeouts thrown), and Owen Mulchay (4 strikeouts thrown).  

Tully was led by Andrew Polak (2 runs, 2 hits & 4 RBI’s), Zeke Mohat (4 runs, 1 hit & 8 strikeouts thrown), Connor Bastedo (2 runs & 1 hit), William Lund (2 hits & 1 RBI), Daniel Duffy (1 run & 1 hit), Oscar Breitzka (1 run & 1 hit), Wyatt Lund (1 RBI & 3 strikeouts thrown), and Nathaniel Melton (3 strikeouts thrown).

The McGraw baseball team won against Afton in their second game of the PBR Lumber Yard High School Classic with a score of 14-2. 

McGraw was led by Calob Sutton (3 runs & 3 hits), Jaydon Bassett (2 runs, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Blair Mulcahy (2 runs, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Brennan Wilson (2 runs, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Riley VanLiew (1 run, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Owen Mulchay (1 run, 1 hit, 2 RBI’s & 3 strikeouts thrown), Liam Baker (2 runs & 1 hit), Foster Eaton (1 hit & 3 RBI’s), Thomas Lea (1 hit & 1 RBI), and Emory Sears (1 run).

With McGraw’s results from Sunday’s games, they now hold a 3-1 record. 

McGraw is now scheduled to play against George Jr Republic at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex on Tuesday (April 9th) at 5pm.

The Cortland Purple Tigers won 13-3 against Fulton in their first PBR Lumber Yard High School Classic game Sunday evening. 

Cortland was led by Zach Muir (2 runs, 2 hits & 3 RBI’s), Owen Johnson (2 runs, 1 hit & 2 RBI’s), Caden Albright (2 runs, 2 hits & 1 RBI), Danny Jackson (3 runs & 1 hit), Jaheim Robinson (2 runs & 1 RBI), Robbie Atkins (1 hit & 2 RBI’s), Mason Kurtz (1 hit & 1 RBI), Ethan Johnson (2 runs & 2 strikeouts thrown), Sean Rogoff (1 RBI), and Antonio Terrazas (5 strikeouts thrown)

Fulton was led by Kyle Stuber (1 hit & 2 RBI’s), Trent Farrands (1 run & 1 hit), Kash Stuber (1 run), Robert Briggs (1 run), Chace Shepard (1 strikeout thrown), Daniel Douglas (1 strikeout thrown), and Tanner Ditton (1 strikeout thrown).

The Cortland varsity baseball team played their second game of the PBR Lumber Yard High School Classic against Windsor Sunday night. Cortland won the game with a score of 8-0. 

Cortland’s shutout win was led by Caden Albright (3 runs, 3 hits & 1 RBI), Danny Jackson (1 run & 1 hit), Cal Albright (1 run), Ethan Johnson (1 run), Antonio Terrazas (1 run), Jaheim Robinson (1 RBI), Zach Muir (6 strikeouts thrown), and Owen Johnson (2 strikeouts thrown). 

Windsor was led by Kohen Werner (1 hit), Ethan Flagg (1 hit), Trey Swartwout (6 strikeouts thrown), and Mathew Boyce (1 strikeout thrown). 

With the last two wins on Sunday, Cortland improved to an overall record of 3-0. 

Cortland’s next game will be a county rivalry game against the Homer Trojans on Tuesday (April 9th). The game is scheduled to be played at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex at 5pm.

The Homer Trojans won 9-2 in their first game of the PBR Lumber Yard High School Classic against Windsor. This was also Homer’s first game of the regular season. 

Homer was led by Mitchell Earle (3 runs & 13 strikeouts thrown), Evan Sullivan (2 runs & 1 hit), Tristan Allen (1 run, 1 hit & 2 RBI’s), Eli McMahon (1 run, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Andrew Kline (1 run & 1 hit), Max Franco (1 hit & 1 RBI), Jacob Griffin (1 run), and Tyler VanEtten (1 hit).

The Homer Trojans lost to Fulton with a score of 11-1 in their second PBR Lumber Yard High School Classic game Sunday night. With this loss, Homer now holds a 1-1 record. 

Homer was led by Evan Sullivan (1 run), Tristan Allen (2 hits), Maddox Johnson (1 hit, 1 RBI & 4 strikeouts thrown), Max Franco (1 hit & 3 strikeouts thrown), Graydon Hickey (1 hit), Andrew Kline (1 strikeout thrown), and Chris Boylan (1 strikeout thrown). 

Fulton was led by Trent Farrands (2 goals, 2 hits, 2 RBI’s & 2 strikeouts thrown), Mathew Brown (2 runs, 2 hits & 1 RBI), Logan Patchen (2 runs, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Robert Briggs (2 runs & 1 RBI), Chace Shepard (2 runs & 1 hit), Kyle Stuber (1 hit & 2 RBI’s), Kash Stuber (1 run & 1 hit), Dylan Sullivan (1 hit & 9 strikeouts thrown), and Nathan Hutchinson (1 RBI).

The Homer Trojans improved their unbeaten record to 5-0 after beating Carthage with a score of 8-5 on Saturday. 

Homer was led by Alexander Votra (4 goals & 8 ground balls), Gabriel O'Connor (1 goal, 3 assists & 5 ground balls), Daniel Stiles (1 assist & 6 ground balls), Christopher Slade (1 goal & 2 assists), Jack Brady (7 ground balls), Brycen Poole (1 goal & 2 ground balls), Mason Potter (1 goal & 1 ground ball), Liam O'Connor (3 ground balls), Wyatt Wilbur (2 ground balls), Logan Stauber (2 ground balls), Anthony Cicioni (1 ground ball), Mason McCall (1 ground ball), Dominic Burlingame (1 ground ball), and Benjamin Bradshaw (1 ground ball & 14 saves). 

Carthage was led by Marcus Hickey (2 goals & 1 assist), Kayden Paquette (2 goals), Michael Ventiquattro (1 goal), Gage Marino (1 assist), and Grant Dicob (1 assist). 

Homer’s next game will be played on Tuesday (April 16th) at Homer high school against Skaneateles. The game is scheduled to begin at 7pm.

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost against Tully with a score of 16-3 on Saturday. With this loss, Cortland has fallen to an overall record of 0-5.

Up next, Cortland will play Westhill at Cortland junior-senior high school this upcoming Friday (April 12th) at 7pm.
