City Police Blotter: Man accused of strangling and pointing gun at victim

An individual was arrested last week after he allegedly strangled and pointed a gun at a female victim, according to a report.

The City of Cortland Police report stated that Spencer L. DaFoe, 44, allegedly engaged in a “verbal and physical” dispute with a female individual.

According to the report, DaFoe allegedly “choked the victim” until she was nearly unconscious. DaFoe also allegedly damaged the female victim’s cell phone to prevent her from calling for help. He also allegedly “pointed a loaded rifle” at the victim and “threatened to kill her,” the report continued. The report mentioned that DaFoe has a prior criminal conviction that prohibits him from possessing a firearm.

DaFoe was arrested last Thursday (April 18) and charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (a Class-C Felony), second-degree strangulation (a Class-D Felony), and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree menacing (a Class-A Misdemeanor). 

DaFoe was processed, arraigned in city court and sent to Cortland County Jail on a $1,500 cash bail. He is due to appear in court on May 3.

David C. Bamberry

Bamberry, 43, of Freetown, was arrested on Thursday (April 18).

The city police report stated that Bamberry failed to update his photograph with the New York State sex offender registry, as required by the conditions of his conviction.

Bamberry was charged with failure to provide a photo, a Class-D Felony. He was processed, arraigned in city court and sent to county jail without bail. He is due to appear in city court on May 3.
