The Cortland Lady Tigers lost against Marcellus with a score of 21-6 at Cortland junior-senior high school on Friday. With this loss, Cortland has fallen to an overall record of 2-9. 

Cortland was led by Valerosa Gambitta (2 goals, 2 assists & 5 ground balls), Aubree Larkin (2 goals, 1 assist & 2 ground balls), Nora Gross (2 goals & 2 ground balls), Emma Marks (2 ground balls), Juliana Zarcone (2 ground balls), Ella Starinsky (1 ground ball), Hannah Ostrander (1 ground ball), Lily Tobin (1 ground ball), and Elizabeth Slavick (7 saves). 

Marcellus was led by Cece Powell (4 goals, 1 assist & 3 ground balls), Sophia Pilon (3 goals, 1 assist & 3 ground balls), Claire Card (4 goals), Avery Shute (3 goals & 2 ground balls), Mary Kennedy (1 goal & 4 ground balls), Anne Tracy (1 goal & 1 ground ball), Adelle Aupperle (1 goal & 1 ground ball), Janie Powell (1 goal & 1 assist), Lauren Weidner (2 goals & 1 ground ball), Leah Wood (1 goal, 1 assist & 2 ground balls), Annie Walters (3 ground balls), Samantha Buff (1 ground ball), Harper Camp (1 assist), and Mia Caryl (3 saves).

Up next, Cortland will play on the road against Skaneateles on Monday (May 6th) at 6:30pm.

Varsity Boys Tennis: Cortland vs. Christian Brothers Academy (CBA)

The Cortland Purple Tigers hosted Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) Friday evening. 

Wrangler Vanslyke, Cortland’s only senior, says what he likes more about tennis is the “competitiveness.”

Cortland ended up losing the match against CBA with a team score of 6-1. With this loss, Cortland now holds a 1-5 record. 

According to Cortland head coach Drew Starinsky, “Tyler Cranfield (1st singles) won in straight sets. Jeremie Hale Jr (2nd singles) lost in straight sets. Wrangler Vanslyke & Andre Myers (1st doubles) lost in straight sets.” 

Sai Patel & Levi Moushkowski (2nd doubles) lost as well. Cortland forfeited their 3rd singles match.

Varsity Boys Golf: Marathon vs. Southern Cayuga

The Marathon Olympians hosted senior night at the Maple Hill Golf Course Friday evening against Southern Cayuga. 

A total of three seniors (Jacob Byron, Bode Carter & Bryce Hartman) were recognized during the match.

Marathon’s next match will be played against Odessa Montour Central this upcoming Monday (May 6th) at the Maple Hill Golf Course at 3:30pm. 

Varsity Boys Golf: Cincinnatus vs. Stockbridge Valley

The Cincinnatus Lions beat Stockbridge Valley with a score of 263-292 on Friday. (Reminder: lowest score in golf wins).

The Cortland Lady Tigers have fallen to an overall record of 6-5 after losing to Solvay with a score of 6-2. 

Cortland was led by Brenna Hogan (2 runs & 12 strikeouts thrown), Sophie Mayer (2 hits & 1 RBI), and Lauren Mott (1 hit). 

Solvay was led by Jenna Wing (2 runs & 1 hit), Ariana Ortiz (2 runs, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Rachel Willsey (1 run & 1 hit), Delaney Kaszubinski (1 hit & 2 RBI’s), Gianna D'Eredita (1 run, 2 hits & 1 RBI), Annabelle Stewart (1 hit & 2 RBI’s), and Annabelle Stewart (7 strikeouts thrown). 

Cortland is now scheduled to host Christian Brothers Academy at Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex on Tuesday (May 7th) at 5pm. 

Varsity Softball: McGraw vs. Tully

The McGraw Lady Eagles lost against Tully with a score of 7-4, making them fall to an overall record of 3-5.

McGraw was led by Leah Terwilliger (1 run & 3 hits), Remington Stull (1 run & 2 hits), Bristol Eastman (1 run & 1 hit), Haylee Bassett (1 run), Hannah Wilson (1 RBI), and Abby Lakie (2 strikeouts thrown). 

Tully was led by Susan Kuty (1 run, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Ella Polak (1 run & 2 hits), Ava Nash (1 run & 2 hits), Catherine DeJosia (1 hit), Julia Wortley (2 hits, 2 RBI’s & 5 strikeouts thrown), MacKenzy Oursler (1 run & 1 hit), Anna Pierce (1 run & 1 hit), Maria Altman (1 hit), Grace McKenna (2 runs & 3 hits), and Hayley Brenchley (1 hit, 1 RBI & 3 strikeouts thrown).

Varsity Track & Field: Homer vs. Multiple Teams (Vestal Golden Bear Mixed Relays)

The Homer Trojans participated in the Vestal Golden Bear Mixed Relays on Friday. 

Here are some highlights from both the Homer boys’ and girls’ teams:

Homer Boys

  • Tasker Dennis came in 2nd place in the discus throw event (Result - 128’8”). He also placed 4th in the shot put event (Result - 40’2.50”)

Homer Girls

  • Molly McMasters placed 5th in the shot put event (Result - 30’6.75”)
  • Brynn Loomis finished in 3rd place in the discus throw event (Result - 99’0”)

Varsity Track & Field: Cortland vs. Multiple Teams (Ed Wadas Memorial Invitational)

The Cortland Purple Tigers competed in the Ed Wadas Memorial Invitational in Whitesboro on Friday. 

According to Cortland coach Luke Schweider, “Iniko Abani scored 14 team points for Cortland yesterday at this Invitation that hosted over 26 teams.”

He placed 2nd in the 110 meter high hurdles (Time - 16.33) and came in 3rd place in the high jump event (Result - 6’0”).
