Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Thursday’s events:

Varsity Girls Lacrosse: Homer vs. Mexico

The Homer Lady Trojans improved to an overall record of 9-5 after beating Mexico with a score of 15-4.  

Homer was led by Maria Partis (3 goals, 3 assists & 1 ground ball), Lilly Sorenson (3 goals, 1 assist & 1 ground ball), Ella Spanbauer (2 goals & 2 assists), Isabelle Small (2 goals), Emma Effinger (2 goals), Caitlin McCloy (2 goals), Gracie Newman (1 goal), Kiera Hooper (1 assist), Taryn Quinn (2 ground balls), Caleigh Stone (1 ground ball), and Aislynn Cobb (9 saves). 

Mexico was led by Hailey Workman (2 goals), Kaylee Halsey (1 goal), Aubrey Shaffer (1 goal), and Anna Fox (6 saves). 

Homer is now scheduled to host Cazenovia at Homer high school this upcoming Tuesday (May 14th) at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Lacrosse: Cortland vs. Christian Brothers Academy (CBA)

The Cortland girls’ lacrosse team lost 18-4 against CBA on Thursday, making them fall to a 2-11 record. 

Cortland was led by Valerosa Gambitta (2 goals & 1 ground ball), Sophia Souzas (1 goal), Emma Marks (1 goal), Ella Starinsky (1 ground ball), Aubree Larkin (1 ground ball), and Elizabeth Slavick (7 saves). 

CBA was led by Maeve Mackenzie (3 goals), Sydney Vaughn (2 goals & 2 assists), Emery McCartney (3 goals & 1 assist), Madison Ceclia (2 goals & 5 assists), Lilah Kirch (3 goals & 3 assists), Charlotte Wilson (1 goal), Kayla Cecilia (1 assist), Adele Summer (1 goal), Ryann Murphy (3 goals), and Katie Pledger (3 saves). 

Up next, Cortland will play on the road against New Hartford on Saturday (May 11th) at 11am. 

Varsity Boys Lacrosse: Homer vs. Tully

The Homer Trojans beat Tully with a score of 16-11 in order to improve to an 8-5 record. 

Homer was led by Daniel Stiles (4 goals & 1 assist), Cooper Swartz (4 goals), Wyatt Wilbur (2 goals & 1 assist), Christopher Slade (4 goals), Gabriel O'Connor (1 goal), Mason McCall (1 assist), Brycen Poole (1 assist), Jack Brady (1 goal), and Benjamin Bradshaw (13 saves). 

Tully was led by Jacob Verbanic (1 goal & 3 assists), Nathan Reid (3 goals), Daniel Garback (3 goals), Louis Bennett (2 goals & 1 assist), Tristan Hendricks (1 goal & 1 assist), Lane Greczzyn (1 assist), Daniel Shetler (1 goal), and Payton Bliss  (14 saves). 

Homer’s next game will be played at Homer high school against New Hartford on Saturday (May 11th) at 12pm (noon). 

Varsity Softball: McGraw vs. Madison

The McGraw softball team improved to an overall record of 5-6 after beating Madison with a score of 18-3. 

McGraw was led by Katelynn Millard (3 hits & 4 RBI’s), Josslyn Eaton (3 runs, 3 hits & 2 RBI’s), Remmington Stull (4 run & 3 hits), Bristol Eastman (1 run & 1 hit), Lexi McCall (2 runs), Leah Terwilliger (3 runs, 1 hit & 2 RBI’s), Haylee Bassett (2 runs & 1 hit), Madison Sweeney (2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Hannah Wilson (1 run & 2 hits), Camdyn Caperton (1 run & 1 hit), Casiana Vasquez (1 run), and Abby Lakie (4 strikeouts thrown).

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions won 3-2 against Brookfield on Thursday in order to improve their overall record to 10-2. 

Cincinnatus was led by Payton Gerrard (1 run, 2 hits & 12 strikeouts thrown), Madison Stover (1 run & 1 hit), Lucy Finch (1 run & 1 hit), Kayle Brenchley (1 hit & 2 RBI’s), Neveah Billings (1 hit), Hannah Ellerson (1 hit), Rachael Standish (1 hit), and Addison Stith (1 hit). 

Brookfield was led by MacKenzie Bugbee (1 run, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Stephenie Brean (1 run & 1 hit), Kaysie White (1 hit), Mallory Wilcox (3 hits & 1 RBI), and Kylee Cucci (4 strikeouts thrown). 

Cincinnatus is now scheduled to play Saranac at Cincinnatus high school on Saturday (May 11th) at 1:15pm.

The Homer Trojans defeated Phoenix with a team score of 4-1 Thursday afternoon.
