Homer Central School District’s proposed 2024-25 budget will include a tax levy increase close to 3%, according to documents.

According to a video from Tuesday’s budget hearing, Homer CSD’s projected budget is at $49,538,835. It is an increase of $2,343,303 from the adopted 2023-24 budget ($47,195,532).

According to the video presentation, the increase in spending is reflected by the district’s $26 million capital improvements project. The district plans to utilize the rise in taxes and reserves to offset the low increase in state aid.

The budget presentation also noted that the proposed tax levy increase is 2.9% (or $508,000). The projected increase is inside the 4.42% allowable tax levy threshold (or $755,856).

The presentation noted that it’s the first time in a decade that Homer CSD has gone over 2% for a tax levy increase. Five of the past nine school budgets had no increase. The rest of the previously adopted budgets had an increase of 2% or less.
