The New York State Track & Field Championships took place at Cicero-North Syracuse high school on Friday (June 7th).

Cortland senior Bryan Honan automatically qualified to compete in the NYS Division II Championships’ discus throw event after breaking a 53-year old Cortland school record at the “Section III Class A Championships” in the month of May. He threw a 151-3 in that meet

After throwing a 143-6 on his first attempt and an invalid throw on his second attempt, Honan threw his best throw of the day at 151-11 to advance to the final round.

He then got another three attempts in the final round where he threw for 139-6, 145-3, and 149-8.

Honan’s best throw of 151-11 placed him 7th overall in New York State’s Division II Championships. His throw was also a personal record that broke his own previous Cortland school record.
