The Village of Homer Board of Trustee unanimously accepted a loan for its ongoing sewer project.

The village board accepted a $325,000 bond anticipation note (BAN) from the Greene County Commercial Bank that will go toward its $5.5 million sewer project. Back in April, the village also approved borrowing $550,000 to help fund the project.

Mayor Hal McCabe noted in the past that since the village has to “pay out of pocket” for the project, it will borrow money “in the short term” for projects. McCabe added that once grant funding is secured, the village will be able to pay back the $550,000 that’s being borrowed.

The sewer project will see an overhaul of the village’s 50-year old sanitary sewer system, including the renovation of pump stations.

Jacqueline Novak, of Barton & Loguidice, the company that’s spearheading the funding and application process for the project, mentioned in the past that designs for the sewer and water projects could be submitted by this fall and bidding could start in January/February 2025. Novak noted if the schedule continues to move along, construction for both projects would begin in spring 2025.
