The Cortland Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying an older gentleman believed to be responsible for stealing a suitcase from a German couple that is visiting the area.
Police believe the man recovered the suitcase full of personal items from Church Street on Sep. 5.
The suitcase and its contents belong to a couple from Germany, police said. The suitcase fell out of their vehicle and onto the roadway as they were traveling through Cortland.
"The couple is returning to Germany soon and wants nothing more then to have the suit case returned," police said in a news release.
Anyone who can identify the man is asked to contact the police department.
