Pair arrested on drug-related charges following traffic stop in Truxton

TRUXTON, N.Y. — Two people were arrested Thursday after authorities allegedly found pills and hypodermic needles in their vehicle.

At about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, officers from the Cortland County Sheriff's Department pulled over two men riding in a vehicle on Route 13 in the town of Truxton.

The driver, Scott A. Evanchoff, 32, of Smithville Flats, was arrested for first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a class E felony.

His passenger, Kenneth D. Paine, 44, of Endicott, was arrested for two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and three counts of unlawful possession of a hypodermic instrument.

Officers located some suboxone, 14 dextroamphetamine pills and three hypodermic needles, according to the sheriff's department.

Both were arraigned in Homer Town Court and taken to Cortland County Jail. Their bail amount was not disclosed.

They are scheduled to return to Truxton Town Court Feb. 10. to answer to the charges.
