CORTLAND, N.Y. — Two men face felony fraud charges after allegedly cashing several altered checks at a bank in the town of Cortlandville.

Bayshawn Barlow, 28, of Cortland, and Curtis I. Lunsford, 26, of Cortland, have been charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a class D felony; two counts of fifth-degree conspiracy, a misdemeanor; and one count of petit larceny.

Shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday, officers were called to investigate a reported fraud in progress at the Chemung Canal Trust Company branch on Route 222 in Cortlandville.

Bank tellers told officers that the check they received from the men seemed suspicious and may have been altered. Officers arrived at the bank within minutes and arrested the pair before they left the bank drive-through.

Further investigation led officers to conclude that the men had been to the same bank on two separate occasions to cash altered checks.

They were arraigned in Cortlandville Town Court with bail set at $500 cash or $1,000 bond.
