Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Tuesday’s events:
Varsity Boys Basketball: Homer vs. Hannibal
The Homer Trojans defeated Hannibal 55-33 on the road Tuesday night. With this win, the Trojans improved their overall record to 4-6.
The Trojans were led by Wyatt Wilbur (16 points), Jon Barnes (16 points), and Evan Butts (15 points).
Hannibal was led by Owen Skiff (11 points) and Gavin Griffin (6 points).
Up next, Homer will take on Westhill at home on Thursday (January 20th) at 6:30pm.
Varsity Boys Basketball: Marathon vs. Groton
The Marathon Olympians lost a tough game in overtime against Groton with a score of 55-59.
“In overtime, I think we just began to run low on gas as Groton got some easy baskets and our shots didn't fall,” said Marathon Head Coach Jim Holland.
The Olympians were led by Conor Holland (34 points) and Braeden Morrison (11 points).
Groton was led by Benjamin DeMatteo (18 points) and Austin Hunt (10 points).
With this loss, the Olympians now hold a 3-7 overall record.
Marathon’s next game is scheduled to be played at home against Spencer Van Etten this Friday (January 21st) at 7:30pm.
Varsity Girls Basketball: Homer vs. Cazenovia
The Homer Lady Trojans defeated Cazenovia 70-61 at home in order to improve their overall record to 9-2 Tuesday night.
The Lady Trojans were led by Gracie Patriarco (24 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists & 8 steals), Catherine Apker (17 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists & 3 steals), and Kayla Miller (13 points, 5 rebounds & 2 assists).
Note: Cazenovia’s individual stats were not available at the time this article was written.
Up next, Homer will play on the road against Institute of Technology at Syracuse on Thursday (January 20th) at 6:30pm.
Varsity Girls Basketball: Marathon vs. Groton
The Marathon Lady Olympians beat Groton on the road Tuesday night with a score of 50-36. With this win, the Lady Olympians have improved their overall record to 9-2.
“Groton played us tough as usual, and our girls did what we needed to do to get the win,” said Marathon head coach Andrew Pierce.
Marathon was led by Brooke Tillotson (25 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists & 7 steals), Abigail Ensign (11 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block & 2 steals), and Addison Oram (8 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists & 1 steal).
Groton was led by Elisa Allen (13 points), Elizabeth Dykeman (7 points), and Katelyn Allen (7 points).
Up next, Marathon will play against Spencer Van Etten Central on the road this Friday (January 21st) at 7:30pm.

The Homer Trojans participated in the Section III Division Dual Meets Tuesday night, where they wrestled against Central Valley Academy (CVA) and General Brown.
