Cortland Weather Outlook: Sunday, January 23

Your Cortland County weather forecast for Sunday, January 23, 2022:

A cold front will move through the area today with shifting winds, snow showers, and another chilly night.

With the front to the north this morning, winds are starting out from the southwest. This will keep snow off Lake Ontario far to the north, but some snow showers off Lake Erie, where winds are more westerly, will be possible.

The front will drop south, picking up the Lake Ontario band of snow and bringing it south as well. Snow showers will become likely for the afternoon, possibly with a couple of briefly heavier bouts of snow.

As the front moves through, winds will turn to the west, then northwest by sunset. Most of the snow will move out, though a few lingering flurries will be possible into the evening and overnight.

Wind speeds throughout the day will be 5-10 mph with gusts of 20-25 mph. Temperatures will top out in the mid 20s during the early afternoon.

Partly cloudy skies will become common tonight. This will help the temperatures fall with most areas falling below zero once again. Most overnight lows not be colder than -5, though.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Monday: Some early sun. Then, increasing clouds with a few late snow showers. Morning lows around -5. Afternoon highs near 20.

Tuesday: Cloudy with snow showers, mostly in the morning. Morning temperatures in the mid 20s. Afternoon temperatures in the low 20s.

Wednesday: A few lake effect snow showers. Morning temperatures in the low 0s. Afternoon highs in the upper 0s.

Thursday: Sun with some late clouds. Morning lows -5 to -10. Afternoon highs near 20.
