Your Cortland County weather forecast for Thursday, March 3, 2022:

Chilly air will build back into the area today behind an area of low pressure that moved through last night.

While the steady snow from this system has moved on, there will be chances for some lake effect snow showers today.

The best chance for some lake effect will come early this morning, then again during the afternoon. The snow showers will not stick around long in any one place during either period, keeping additional accumulations at or under an inch.

It will be breezy, though, so blowing and drifting snow will be common throughout the day in the usual areas.

These winds will be from the northwest with speeds of 10-15 mph. Top gusts will come in around 30 mph.

The wind will also keep temperatures from rising much, if at all, today. Much of the daytime hours will see temperatures hovering around 20 degrees.

Late in the afternoon or early this evening, the lake effect will diminish as winds weaken and shift to a more westerly direction.

Clouds will clear out for the most part, meaning there could be some sun before today is done. Mostly clear skies overnight will allow temperatures to fall quickly into the single digits.

Most of the county should end up near or just below zero by Friday morning.

Here is a look at the weather for the next several days:

Friday: Sun and late thin clouds. Morning lows near or just below 0. Afternoon highs in the upper 20s.

Saturday: Cloudy. A few stray flurries or showers. Morning lows in the mid 10s. Afternoon highs near 40.

Sunday: Breezy and warm with occasional rain showers. Morning lows in the low 40s. Afternoon highs around 60.

Monday: Cloudy with snow or mixed precipitation possible. Morning lows in the upper 20s. Afternoon highs in the low 30s.
