Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (December 12th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Monday’s events:

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cortland vs. Homer

The Cortland Purple Tigers defeated the Homer Lady Trojans with a score of 66-37 at Homer High School Monday night. 

With this result, Cortland improved to a 3-1 record; while Homer fell to 1-4. 

Cortland was led by Valerosa Gambitta (20 points), Kendall Mack (12 points), Mallory Turner (11 points), and Claire Turner (10 points).

Homer was led by Catherine Apker (24 points) and Amanda Rood (5 points). 

Up next, Cortland will play Oswego at home on Thursday (December 15th) at 6:45pm; while Homer takes on Cazenovia on the road at 7pm this Friday (December 16th).

Varsity Boys Basketball: McGraw vs. Brookfield

The McGraw boys basketball team took down Brookfield with a score of 64-28 in order to improve their overall record to 3-0. 

McGraw was led by Gaven Truman (17 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists & 1 steal), Nick Sutton (11 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound & 2 steals), Jaydon Bassett (6 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks & 3 steals), and Caleb Epp (8 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks & 2 steals).

Brookfield was led by Bryce Smith (12 points) and Drake Alsante (11 rebounds). 

McGraw will look to improve their unbeaten record, as they take on Stockbridge Valley on the road this Thursday (December 15th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. DeRuyter

The Cincinnatus Lions fell to a 0-2 record after losing to DeRuyter with a close score of 35-45 Monday night. 

Cincinnatus was led by Canden Stafford (26 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists & 3 steals) and Tucker Latta (3 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists & 1 steal). 

DeRuyter was led by Ryder Forrest (21 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals & 1 block) and Wesley Pforter (11 points, 9 rebounds & 2 blocks).

Up next, Cincinnatus is scheduled to play at home against Brookfield on Thursday (December 15th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Volleyball: Cincinnatus vs. Brookfield

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions defeated Brookfield in three sets Monday evening. 

With this win, Cincinnatus improved to an unbeaten overall record of 3-0. 

Cincinnatus was led by Caitlyn St. Germain (21 assists, 8 aces, 6 kills, 1 block & 17 service points), Allyson St. Germain (5 aces & 15 kills), Kaedance Latta (5 kills), and Shannon Ryan (3 aces & 2 kills).

Note: Stats for Brookfield were not available by the time this article was written. 

Cincinnatus will now look forward to hosting on Onondaga this Friday (December 16th) at 7pm.
