Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (December 13th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Tuesday’s events:

Varsity Boys Basketball: Homer vs. Syracuse Academy of Science

The Homer Trojans lost 43-60 against Syracuse Academy of Science at home on Tuesday.   Homer now holds a 0-4 record. 

Homer was led by Wyatt Wilbur (19 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist & 1 block) and Evan Butts (13 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist & 1 steal). 

Note: Syracuse Academy of Science stats were not available by the time this article was written.

Up next, Homer will look to turn things around at home against Cazenovia on Thursday (December 15th) at 5:30pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Marathon vs. Southern Cayuga

The Marathon Olympians lost against Southern Cayuga with a score of 57-70. 

Marathon was led by Conor Holland (26 points), Zachary Birdsall (12 points), Jacob Byron (11 points), and Bryce Hartman (8 points). 

Southern Cayuga was led by Brandon Vanacore (30 points), Isaac Brozon (14 points), and Nathan Thurston (13 points).

With this loss, Marathon has fallen to an overall record of 0-3.

Up next, Marathon is scheduled to play at home against Union Springs on Friday (December 16th) at 7:15pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Stockbridge Valley

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions fell to an overall record of 0-4 after losing to Stockbridge Valley with a score of 32-40 Tuesday night.

Cincinnatus was led by Cortney Scutt (14 points) and Justice Crane (9 points).

Stockbridge Valley was led by Marlie Brummer (16 points) and Allissa Mazzye (10 points).

Cincinnatus is scheduled to play at home against Poland on Thursday (December 15th) at 6pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Marathon vs. Southern Cayuga

The Marathon girls basketball team lost a close game against Southern Cayuga with a final score of 38-43.

Marathon was led by Abby Ensign (16 points) and Addison Oram (15 points). 

Southern Cayuga was led by Charli Bennett (20 points). 

With this result, Marathon now holds a 3-2 record. 

Marathon will now play on the road against Union Springs on Friday (December 16th) at 7:15pm. 

Varsity Ice Hockey: Cortland-Homer vs. Clinton

The Cortland-Homer Golden Eagles defeated Clinton with a score of 7-2 in order to improve their unbeaten record of 4-0. 

This game was also a milestone night for both Andrew Partigianoni and Hunter Everle.

Varsity Volleyball: McGraw vs. DeRuyter

The McGraw Lady Eagles lost to DeRuyter after four sets Tuesday night. 

McGraw was led by Julia Greene (6 aces, 1 kill & 1 block), Caperton, Camdyn (2 aces & 1 kill), and Marshall, Jaden (1 ace & 1 kill).

DeRuyter was led by Emma Denkenberger (6 kills, 2 aces, 1 block & 3 digs) and Shanley Nicholas (13 assists).

“Great games last night,” said McGraw Head Coach Jessyca Doran. “We are learning to work together as a team now that we are all back together. Julia Greene has really stepped up her game this year. We are looking forward to Brookfield on Thursday.”

With this loss, McGraw has fallen to an 0-4 record. 

Up next, McGraw will play Brookfield on Thursday (December 15th) on the road at 7pm.
