Cortland firefighters revived an unconscious female on Wednesday, according to a post on the City of Cortland Fire Department Facebook page.

The post noted Cortland firefighters arrived on scene to find the female patient “unconscious, without a heartbeat, and not breathing.”

Bystanders initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and firefighters took over once they were on scene. Firefighters also used an automated external defibrillator during the medical emergency, where one shock was administered, the post said.

While the female patient was being transported to the hospital, the post mentioned she was “alert and talking.”

The post praised the firefighters and bystanders involved in the medical emergency and helping to treat the female patient.

“Early CPR and defibrillation are keys to survivability. Great work everyone,” the post concluded.
