Cortland County firefighters overpower overnight fire (Photos Included)

A couple of Cortland County-based fire departments put out a house fire just after midnight on Thursday, according to a report.

At 12:18 a.m. on Thursday, the Cortlandville and Homer Fire Departments responded to the house on Route 215 in the town of Cortlandville, the report noted.

With heavy smoke and fire coming from the residence, firefighters put out the fire in 20 minutes from inside the house. According to the report, the fire was contained to two rooms in the house.

One individual was treated on scene for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.

Units cleared the scene by 2 a.m. on Thursday. The cause of the fire is being considered an accident.

The Cortlandville and Homer Fire Departments were assisted by departments from Virgil, McGraw, McLean and Dryden. The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, TLC-EMS and the New York State Department of Transportation. The Groton and Marathon Fire Departments were on standby.
