Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (April 4th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Tuesday’s events:

Varsity Boys Lacrosse: Homer vs. Watertown

The Homer Trojans fell to a 1-2 record after losing 4-11 against Watertown on the road Tuesday evening. 

Homer was led by Reid Partis (2 goals), Evan Butts (1 goal), Cooper Swartz (1 goal), Lukas Quinn (1 assist), Hunter Riehlman (1 assist), and Benjamin Bradshaw (10 saves). 

Watertown was led by Nico Spaziani (2 goals & 1 assist), Jack Rathbun (2 goals & 1 assist), Jack Clough (2 goals & 1 assist), Mick O'Donnell (5 assists), Kage Loftus (2 goals), Jack Adams (2 goals), Luck Lafex (1 goal), and Patrick Duah (14 saves). 

Up next, Homer will host Tully at Homer High School on Tuesday (April 11th) at 5:30pm.

Varsity Girls Lacrosse: Cortland vs. New Hartford

The Cortland Lady Tigers lost their first game of the season 9-18 against New Hartford Tuesday night. 

Cortland was led by Valerosa Gambitta (3 goals & 1 assist), Lillian Call (3 goals), Gabrielle Cranfield (1 goal & 1 assist), Olivia Magin (1 goal), Aubree Larkin (1 goal), and Hayden Bulger (1 save).

New Hartford was led by Kate Elbrecht (3 goals & 2 assists), Sophia Campola (3 goals & 2 assists), Elizabeth Rayhill (2 goals), Bella Kolb (3 goals & 1 assist), Caitlin Greene (2 goals & 1 assist), Natalia Viola (2 goals), Ella Greico (1 goal & 1 assist), Leah Hilton (2 goals), and Emily Picolla (5 saves).

Varsity Track & Field: Cortland vs. Multiple Teams (Westhill Spring Break Invitational)

The Cortland Tigers competed in their first meet of the spring season at Westhill High School Tuesday evening.

Here are some highlights from both Cortland boys’ and girls’ teams:

Cortland Boys

  • Duncan Harbin placed 4th in the shot put event (Result - 40’3”). His result qualifies him for sectionals. 
  • Bryan Honan came in 2nd in the discus event (Result - 123’9”). His result qualifies him for states. 
  • Jack Phelan finished 2nd in the long jump event (Result - 19’5”). He also placed 3rd in the triple jump event (Result - 38’9.5”). His results in the long jump and triple jump qualifies him for sectionals. 
  • Iniko Abani placed 4th in the long jump event (Result - 19’3”). His result qualifies him for sectionals. 

Cortland Girls

  • Morgann Doane placed 8th in the long jump event (Result - 14’7”). Her result qualifies her for sectionals. 
  • Rileigh Madden tied for 6th place in the pole vault event (Result - 7’0”)
