Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Wednesday’s events:

Varsity Baseball: Marathon vs. Groton (Double-Header)

The Marathon Olympians played a double-header against Groton at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex Wednesday evening. 

Marathon lost both games of the double-header, bringing their record down to 1-14. 

“I’m proud of how the boys battled tonight,” said Marathon head coach Bryan Hoyt. “These boys never give up and always give it their all. As a coach that’s all you can ask for.”

The Marathon Lady Olympians defeated the Cincinnatus Lady Lions in a Cortland county matchup Wednesday afternoon.

Up next, Marathon is scheduled to play on the road against Norwich on Friday (May 12th) at 4:30pm; while Cincinnatus plays Stockbridge Valley on the road on Friday (May 12th) at 4:30pm.

The Cortland Lady Tigers lost their sixth straight game Wednesday evening with a score of 0-11 against East Syracuse Minoa (ESM), bringing their overall record down to 8-8. 

Cortland was led by Mallory Turner (2 hits), Madison Thompson (1 hit), Molly Steve (1 hit), and Brenna Hogan (9 strikeouts thrown). 

ESM’s runs were scored by Brooke Kirkpatrick (3 runs), Sara Brefka (2 runs), Madelin Marquart (2 runs), Olivia Goff (2 runs), Ava Burry (1 run), and Maya Boots (1 run). 

According to Cortland’s athletic calendar, their next game will be played against Homer at Homer high school on Friday (May 12th) at 4:30pm.

The McGraw Lady Eagles fell to an overall record of 2-13 after losing with a final score of 23-31 against Tully. 

McGraw’s runs were scored by Leah Terwilliger (6 runs), Haylee Bassett (3 runs), Hanna Wilson (3 runs), Katelynn Millard (3 runs), Jaden Marshall (2 runs), Josslyn Eaton (2 runs), Madison Sweeney (1 run), Adrianna Stacconi (1 run), Camdyn Caperton (1 run), and Casiana Vasquez (1 run).

McGraw will play Otselic Valley at Onondaga Community College on Friday (May 12th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Boys Golf: McGraw vs. DeRuyter

The McGraw Eagles played against DeRuyter at the Knickerbocker Country Club Wednesday afternoon. McGraw lost the match with an overall team score of 251-229. (Reminder: Lowest score in golf wins).
